Oxygen Active Play Centre, Crawley
The Oxygen Active Play Centre project involved the fit-out of an existing unit at Crawley Leisure Park in West Sussex to create a new leisure facility.
Decon, the fit-out contractor, appointed enevo in June 2026 to provide CDM Principal Designer services. Our role supported the coordination of design risk across the specialist work packages and their interfaces with the existing building.
What did the project require?
The fit-out was planned around a 14-week construction programme, requiring coordination between designers, specialist contractors and installation trades.
New layouts, specialist installations, building services and customer areas needed to be considered alongside the existing building and construction methodology. Key considerations included safe access for installation and maintenance, temporary conditions during construction, and the future use of the facility by staff and customers.
As design information developed, timely decisions and clear ownership of health and safety actions were important to the coordination of the works.
enevo’s involvement
As CDM Principal Designer, enevo supported the planning, management and monitoring of health and safety during the pre-construction and design stages.
Our involvement included:
- Identifying and reviewing significant design risks.
- Coordinating design-risk information between designers and specialist contractors.
- Reviewing available pre-construction information.
- Communicating relevant residual risks.
- Considering buildability, access and maintenance.
- Coordinating with Decon as the fit-out contractor.
- Supporting preparation of Health and Safety File information for handover.
Coordinating specialist design packages
enevo provided a structured approach to coordinating health and safety matters across the design team. This supported consideration of how individual installations and design decisions interacted with other work packages and the existing building.
Our contribution focused on identifying and communicating foreseeable risks as the fit-out design developed, supporting Decon and the wider project team within the constrained programme.
